“Like a roaring lion and a rushing bearIs a wicked ruler over a poor people” (Proverbs 28:15).
This sounds very much like an assessment a person might make about their least favourite politician.Fortunately, not every leader is wicked. But people are famous for hearing ‘roaring lions’ and seeing ‘rushing bears’ when political expectations are left unfulfilled. Therefore, a Christian would be wise to be careful how they view leadership at any level. Many of us live in countries where all our daily needs are meet, and we have little to complain about. We are well-fed and our freedoms are many.Christians should know better than to get caught up in political affairs. Yes, we see neglect and abuse for what they are, but our first reaction is to meet the needs in front of us, not to spend the resources God has blessed us with going to war against godless politicians. Some of our brethren live in lands where wicked leaders abound. They have to be careful for their livelihoods and physical safety as they prayerfully negotiate antagonistic neighbours and capricious governments. Evil leaders love their threatening cries and their overpowering attacks. May God bless our brethren as they endure such suffering at the hands of men. If our brethren, though suffering, enjoy the peace of the Lord in their hearts, imagine the miseries of those suffering outside of Christ.May we open our hearts to God to be used to plant churches around the world. It is the gospel that transforms nations. It is the gospel that raises up righteous leaders.Praise God!
