Welcome to Our Church

At the Morningside Church of Christ, we do not claim to have all the answers or be able to provide everything your soul is longing for. But we are followers of the One who does claim to be “The Way, the Truth, and the Life” (John 14:6). Jesus does not claim to offer you an easy life. But He does say that when your life is lived in Him and through Him that it will be the most fulfilling life possible.

The Gospel Part 2 – I am Debtor

A burden of debt was laid upon Paul’s heart:No man inspired Him to do this.No one could bind him to do this.No one could Bribe him. Bully him. Manipulate him. Deceive him. Romans 1:14-16 14 I am [a]under obligation both to Greeks and to barbarians, both to the wise and to the foolish. 15 So, for my part, I am eager to preach the gospel to you also who are in Rome. 16 For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for…

Through Many Tribulations

•We are born into a troubled world. •Pain, sickness and death cannot be avoided. •Trust in people gets thin sometimes. •Setbacks: Home, School, Work… can put our dreams far into the distant future. Acts 14:22 22 strengthening the souls of the disciples, encouraging them to continue in the faith, and saying, “Through many tribulations we must enter the kingdom of God.”

The Gospel Part 1 – The Power of God

The Power of God unto SalvationThe Power to change You!The Power to change the world.Power to the unbeliever Romans 1:16-17 16 For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes, to the Jew first and also to the Greek. 17 For in it the righteousness of God is revealed [j]from faith to faith; as it is written, “[k]But the righteous man shall live by faith.”

Adjustments#2. “Friendship—Seven lessons I have learned so far.”

Elvis had two unique abilities. Firstly, (and obviously) his outstanding voice, and secondly, his instant likability. He gave off the vibe that if you met him, you would undoubtedly be one of his closest life-long friends. Of course, those high gates at Graceland were not put there to keep millions of life-long friends in.Having just completed six decades on earth, I have been caused to reflect on how blessed I am to have friendships that have stood the test of…

Adjustments#1. “Fatherhood—Seven lessons I have learned so far.”

Lesson 1. I was young when I started, and now I am (nearly) old. Today my children are 26, 25 and 22 years old. Words cannot describe my love for them and Lynda, but it is a love lived in time. Lesson 2. When God blesses you with children you are immediately thrust into a parallel universe. If there were any traces of the freedoms of single life left in marriage up till then, they were purged forthwith. Lesson 3.…

Easier said than done.#10. “Here be Dragons.”

Leonardo De Vinci wrote, “Here be dragons” on a map that is known as De Vinci’s Globe. He wrote his warning in Latin, while other mapmakers of old adorned their maps with actual pictures of wild creatures. Thus, those wanting to travel beyond the borders of the known world were thought to have been given fair warning. Obviously, not everyone was dissuaded. It takes more than pictures and rumours to keep a determined pioneer at home. Going off the map…

Easier said than done.#9. “Calling the wanderers home.”

“There are no atheists in foxholes” goes a timeless aphorism. Proving that at times of extreme fear and concern religion is brought to the surface of the most irreligious of souls. I met a veteran who told me that he had made promises to God in the heat of battle that was fuelled by nothing but terror. He said that those prayers and promises were of a world where everything was literally splitting apart around him. A world where his…

Bulletin 01-03-2020

We all get caught up in the process of daily living, and it’s easy to be distracted from what is important. There are so many things going on around us and many of them involve us. We have to make time for God. David was a great example of someone who made quality time to spend alone with God. So many of the Psalms are heart-warming because they are personal and because they are praises to God. David didn’t pen…

Bulletin 02-02-2020

The Bible is Not “Just a Book” Can we live without hope? The Bible, which speaks of good news, is a collection or writings that were written over a period of 1,500 years. Moses wrote the first five books of the Bible (starting with Genesis), and John wrote the last (Revelation) in AD 96. Throughout the Bible a unique thread of hope is interwoven – Jesus was the promised hope of the Old Testament, He came to earth and died…
