The last time I wrote on the subject of ‘one person having an intense dislike for another person’ my article ended up lonelier than a vegan snack bar at a Christian Men’s Challenge. So, I thought I’d be able to trick one or two of you into getting to at least paragraph three by not mentioning the verse until now…
Proverbs 10:18 “One who conceals hatred has lying lips,And one who spreads slander is a fool.
”What is it about the word ‘Hate’ that makes even the hardiest of souls recoil? It is not easy to like everyone. Less is it likely that a Christian is going to admit to hating someone. And understandably so. Some people go out of there way to put all prospects of friendship out of reach by their behaviour. It seems that all the pleasantness in the world may never move them. Even those doomed to live or work with them finally give up hope of a meaningful relationship. It is made even more difficult because hard on the heels of fake love comes slander. Self-justification is the natural outflow of those who live a lie. Is communicating in a civil manner with such people just perpetuating the lie? I assure you that any niceness on their behalf is just a facade. Fake words designed to gloss over deep-seated dislike for you.As uncomfortable as these encounters are, you must grow past them. These are not precious moments of sad regret. They are displays put on by the father of lies. This is a time to pray for discernment and a tough hide. It goes without saying that the Christian doesn’t return hate for hate.
