Ready or Not #10. “We shall be like him.”

Ready or Not #10. “We shall be like him.”

Jim has a house full of antiques. Twenty-five years ago, I asked him to evaluate an old clock I have. He looked at it and said that it was worth about $800.00 in working order. When I asked him how much it might cost to restore, he said, “$800.00.” Later, I went into an antique clock shop and asked them to tell me the value of my clock and how much it would cost to restore. The answers were exactly as Jim had said. Effectively, the only way that I was going to have a fully restored clock, was to be willing to pay everything it was worth.

You and I are surrounded by things. We may debate the need and value of each item, but we all agree that we can’t operate effectively without those that keep us alive and productive.

One day we will experience a moment in our existence where every physical thing will cease to have use or value. On that day when Jesus suddenly returns, our perishable bodies will be raised imperishable (1 Corinthians 15:42), and everything else will be destroyed by fire (2 Peter 3:10).

When we arrive in the presence of Jesus, he will have transformed our lowly bodies so that they will be like his glorious body (Philippians 3:21). It is only because our souls are cleansed by his grace that we will be able to live in his glorious presence. Praise the Lord!

We will be fully restored in the presence of our Creator, but it was Jesus who paid for it.

“Dear friends, now we are children of God, and we have not yet been shown what we will be in the future. But we know that when Christ comes again, we will be like him, because we will see him as he really is” (1 John 3:2NCV).
