Renewing the Mind #4. “Prepare your mind for action.”

Renewing the Mind #4. “Prepare your mind for action.”

“Therefore, prepare your minds for action, keep sober in spirit, fix your hope completely on the grace to be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ” (1 Peter 1:13).

Words are meaningless noises in the ears of the distracted.

In fact, even if Peter’s command to “prepare your mind for action” gets through, it will only serve to frustrate you further if your life is all over the place. You are a long way from being ready for action when your thoughts and energies are dedicated to worldly pursuits.

The devil may work amidst the excitement of excess, but his influence is subtle. It is not until we see that his evil has begun to rot out the core of our existence that we wake up to the war that is going on around us. Unlike conventional wars, where bombs, bullets, screams, and destruction remind everyone of its raging, the devil’s war quietly attacks, poisons, and imprisons the soul.

Preparing your mind for this war begins by getting serious and clearing away the sins and temptations that anchor your hope in this world. Instead, you must fix your hope on the glory and grace of Judgement Day. The hope of meeting Jesus on the Last Day will empower you to fight and win your spiritual war ahead.

Yes, you will be tempted and deceived, and you will be defeated in some of your battles. But the ability to go on lies in your determination to “fix your eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of faith, who for the joy set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God” (Hebrews 12:2).

Prepare your mind for action.
