Standing in the Assembly of the Righteous#4. “Stand your ground!”

King David led Israel’s army from the front. He was a true warrior-king. With him were his “Mighty Men;” all men of renown. One of them, a man named Eleazar, was among “The Three Mighty Men.” His fame was forged in battle with the Philistines at the Battle of Pas Dammin. It was there that the Israelite army retreated before the Philistines, but “Eleazar stood his ground.”

Kingdoms were established by the skill and bravery of men like Eleazar. When others cowered at the insurmountable odds and ran, Eleazar stood firm, fought hard and prevailed. By this one man, so exhausted that his hand froze to his sword, the Lord brought about a great victory that day.

Yes, the other troops returned to the battleground, but only to strip the dead of their valuables. The battle was already won by the Lord by one man (2Sam.23:9-10).

In the Kingdom of God, King Jesus leads his army from the front; you and I fight with him “against the rulers, against the powers, against the world forces of this darkness, against the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly places (Eph.6:12).

If the enemy is ever before us, what can we expect? We can expect that Satan and his demons will relentlessly bombard us with sin and temptation; we can assume no less.

What can we do? Armour up, of course! Though a thousand sermons be preached on donning the Armour of God, may there be ten thousand more according to the need.

Given the size and strength of the enemy, are the odds insurmountable? No! “If God be for us, who can be against us?” (Rom.8:31).

“That is why you need to put on God’s full armour. Then on the day of evil you will be able to stand strong. And when you have finished the whole fight, you will still be standing” (Eph.6:13).

Stand your ground, fight hard, and the Lord will give victory.
