The First: “Thou shalt have no other gods before me.”

It must be like living through your own personal horror scene to wake up one morning to realize that the ‘god’ you have been worshiping was a figment of someone else’s imagination. The only thing that to turn this curse into a blessing, is if it is discovered while meeting the One true God.Only then will the wasted time, effort and resources be placed into the gracious hands of the One who “causes all things to work together for good” (Rom.8:28).In this world there are many ‘gods’; all of man’s making (1Cor.8:5).But lest anyone think that they can insert into their life their own personal version of ‘god,’ the God of the Bible acknowledges the existence of no other God but Himself (Deut.32:39).He will share His right to glory and honour with no one else, because there is no one else to share it with. The First of the Ten Commandments is the foundation on which the other nine are to be built:“You shall have no other gods before Me” (Ex.20:3).The God of Israel is the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. Of that they were to have no doubts. But 430 years in Egypt had immersed them in the ways of the gods of Egypt. Now, as they stood at the foot of Mount Sinai, God was giving them His Law. These were to be taken, not as if from just another god, but from their God—YHWH!The God of all history, was specifically the God of their experience. He prefaces the Decalogue with:“I am the LORD your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of slaves” (Ex.20:2).Christians “have no other gods” before YHWH, because he is still the God of all history, and specifically the God of our experience. 3500 years later, God is still delivering souls from the ‘house of slaves’ through His beloved Son.I am one of them – Praise God!John StaigerIf you have been blessed by this message, please feel free to: Like, Comment or Share it with your friends.
