“But if any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all generously and without reproach, and it will be given to him” (James 1:5)
Concerning wisdom to overcome your daily trials, the wisest thing I can say to you is: “Ask God now for that wisdom—You don’t have to wait!”
Many of our problems come when “Praying for wisdom” is treated as the measure of last resort; a thing you decide to do when everything else has failed. Since most trials and temptations are common to all of us (1 Corinthians 10:13), it would pay for us to pre-empt their inevitable visitations. This is done by making specific requests to the Lord for wisdom to overcome them—do it now!
One of the things you must keep in mind when asking and waiting for God’s generous gift of wisdom, is that our ability to re-gift it has limits. We can share God’s blessings of direction, problem-solving, and the provisions for the day, but unless others seek God’s wisdom for themselves, they will lack direct wisdom from above. We can only pray and encourage them to seek God’s wisdom for themselves, but we cannot transfer it from our account to theirs.
Since God is offering us wisdom without limit, we must claim it! Now, how that is played out in your life and mine will be determined by how serious we are about finishing every request for wisdom with: “Thy will be done.” Some of the answers to our prayers will become immediately obvious, but many others will only be seen in hindsight. God’s providence works in His time; Praise the Lord!
“Let me hear Your lovingkindness in the morning;
For I trust in You;
Teach me the way in which I should walk;
For to You I lift up my soul”
(Psalm 143:8)
