“Even in your thoughts, do not curse the king, nor in your bedroom curse the rich, for a bird of the air will carry your voice,or some winged creature tell the matter” (Ecclesiastes 10:20).
Mothers have ESP! I am sure that you have vivid childhood memories of your mother’s incredible ability to know your thoughts and motives on any and every matter. What made it worse was when you asked how she knew, she invariably said, “A little birdy told me.” We assume that our private thoughts are our own, and we live in hope that they are kept in confidence by those to whom we reveal them. However, we live in a real and interactive world. People know us. They meet our associates, they observe our comings and goings, and they connect with our likes and dislikes. Solomon is warning you: ‘Walls have ears!’ Your annoyance with authority, though spoken quietly in your inner sanctum, is relayed swiftly to those over you by those who may benefit from the retelling.Stubborn resolve that those in authority can’t do you harm is naivety, to say the least! Those having attained to the dizzy heights of power, either through election or wealth, have a sixth sense when finding dissenters. Discovering ‘Treasonous thoughts’ is their obsession.Righteous living is the business of the Christian. We pray blessings upon the souls of the nation and those who rule. If that is offensive to the ears of our leaders, then it is with God that they will have to contend.“Be careful little mouth what you say…!”John StaigerIf you have been blessed by this message, please feel free to: Like, Comment or Share it with your friends.
